A little puppy has just found a forever home, but not just any home. The champagne-colored dog was adopted on Saturday by one of country music’s biggest stars – Miranda Lambert. All thanks to a 6-year-old girl who dared to dream big.
In early August Riley Weinberger created a video about the rescued animals she cares for as a volunteer for Wellington-based Big Dog Ranch Rescue. She is a huge fan of Lambert and had heard that the singer shared her passion for animals. She wanted desperately for Lambert to tour the facility during her visit to West Palm Beach to perform at Cruzan Amphitheatre on September 21 so she could help promote the work done by the rescue organization.
So she created the video and asked the singer: “Please Miranda, we could save more dogs lives.”
Hours before Lambert was to belt out her famous songs she stopped by Big Dog Ranch, met Riley and her family, adopted a puppy and named him Bellamy (in honor of the Bellamy brothers), according to the rescue organization.
“Miranda was wonderful and very kind,” said Eric Weinberger, Riley’s father. He said that in addition to adopting the puppy, who was rescued from Miami-Dade Animal Shelter, the singer donated money to Big Dog Ranch.
Riley’s video caught the attention of one of WPTV’s producer who wrote a story about the child’s desire to help better the lives of sick and abandoned animals. After the story aired on WPTV. Riley went on to be interviewed by several media organizations in Palm Beach County.
So far Riley’s video has had more than 2100 views. You can watch her video at here.
More star wattage has been added to the upcoming sold-out tribute concert for the late, great George Jones.
The country singer’s widow, Nancy Jones, announced on Monday morning that George Strait, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Reba McEntire, and Alabama will all perform at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 22.
“I am thrilled and honored that so many of George’s friends are coming to what would have been his last concert, but is not a fitting tribute,” says Nancy Jones. “George loved these artists and before passing had actually wrote letters to almost all of them.”
Previously announced performers include Alan Jackson, Dierks Bentley, Travis Tritt, Tanya Tucker, Josh Turner, The Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Daniels, Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, Sam Moore, among others.
Originally envisioned to be Jones’ farewell concert of his “Grand Tour,” the Nov. 22 event took on the theme of a tribute following his death on April 26.
The No. 1 celebration for Miranda Lambert’s standout hit “Mama’s Broken Heart” at Cabana restaurant in Nashville featured all the ritual presentation of accolades, but there was something a little different this time around.
In addition to Miranda, a significant number of the people behind the song—songwriters and publishers alike—were female, quite a change from the usual boys-only lineup at these events. It also seemed like an incredibly close group of friends who encourage one another’s talents.
“Mama’s Broken Heart,” penned by leading CMA Awards nominee Kacey Musgraves, along with CW favorite Brandy Clark and red-hot songwriter Shane McAnally (who produces Kacey), was initially slated for Kacey’s album. Miranda actually paused her own wedding celebration to have the discussion with Kacey about recording it.
“I loved the song so much I was willing to fight for it if she didn’t want it,” said Miranda, regarding her exchange with Kacey. Ultimately, Kacey graciously gave it to Miranda on the condition that she could sing backup on the recording, and the rest is history.
Miranda called the song “epic and classic,” praising the writers’ hard work. The songwriters of Nashville spend their time “writing a million songs in hopes that someone cuts them,” she said. “I have one cut by another writer and it’s [Blake] and I had to sleep with him to get it,” she quipped.
Blake was indeed spotted in the crowd along with American Idol runner-up (and close friend to Kacey) Kree Harrison.
Kacey, celebrating her first No. 1, noted it was a “crazy moment” for her. She, along with seemingly everyone else on the stage, also praised the bold, exciting music coming from co-writer Brandy.
Brandy returned the love for her fellow females, gesturing to Miranda and Kacey. “[There are] not a lot of them on the radio right now, but the two best are standing up here right now.”
Yesterday (September 11) Miranda celebrated her fifth number one single Mama’s Broken Heart with husband Blake Shelton and co-writers Kacey Musgraves, Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. Photos are in the gallery!
